:A Street Food Classic
If you prefer plain grilled bananas without batter, you can still enjoy a delicious snack or dessert that brings out their natural sweetness. Grilling them enhances their flavor with gentle smokiness, creating a light, guilt-free treat that’s simple yet satisfying.

Ingredients
4-5 ripe bananas (preferably Thai bananas like kluay nam wa)
Oil for brushing (optional, coconut oil works well for added flavor)
Honey, sweetened condensed milk, or coconut milk for drizzling (optional)
Instructions:
Prepare the Bananas
Peel the bananas and slice them lengthwise into halves or leave them whole for a heartier bite. You can also cut them into thick rounds if preferred.
Preheat the Grill
Preheat your grill to medium heat. If you want to prevent the bananas from sticking, lightly brush the grill grates with a little oil.
Grill the Bananas
Place the banana slices (or whole bananas) directly on the preheated grill.
Grill for about 2-4 minutes on each side, or until the bananas develop nice grill marks and are warmed through. The grilling process will caramelize the natural sugars in the bananas, giving them a sweet, smoky flavor.
Serve
Remove the grilled bananas from the grill and serve immediately.
For a sweeter treat, you can drizzle the grilled bananas with honey, sweetened condensed milk, or coconut milk, or enjoy them plain for a simple, naturally sweet snack.
Non-Alcoholic Beverages to Pair
Coconut Water (Nam Maprao)
Light, naturally sweet, and refreshing, coconut water highlights the caramelized edges of Kluay Ping while cleansing the palate between bites. Its subtle minerality contrasts beautifully with the grilled banana’s warm, toasty aroma.
Iced Thai Milk Tea
Rich, creamy, and fragrant with tea and spices, Thai Milk Tea wraps around the warm banana like a soft dessert pairing. Its sweetness amplifies the banana’s buttery texture while the tannins add gentle balance.
Lemongrass Ice Tea (ชาตะไคร้)
Crisp, citrusy, and aromatic, lemongrass tea cuts through the banana’s sweetness with a bright herbal lift. The pairing feels lively and refreshing, especially when served chilled.
Pandan Nut Tea (ชาใบเตย)
Soft, soothing, and naturally fragrant, pandan tea mirrors the dessert’s warm, tropical character. Its vanilla-like notes blend harmoniously with grilled banana, creating a nostalgic, comforting duo.
Roselle–Lime Cooler
Tart, vibrant, and slightly floral, roselle-lime offers a zesty contrast to the smoky sweetness of Kluay Ping. The acidity refreshes the palate, making each bite of banana taste even richer and more caramelized.
